What's Your Number?

Wellll... I sometimes need a break from a serious film, and go for the extreme opposite. This is the opposite. My friend and I debated between this one and Killer Elite, and decided we just were not in the mood for an Action flick. I knew this movie would not be an "Oscar Winner" but we saw it anyways. It had a fun premise, and an adorably charming cast. A fun little raunchy, guilty pleasure movie, but definitely not the best "Rom-Com" I have seen. 6/10.

Contagion

Great thriller, and a PHENOMENAL cast! I did not really want to see this, because I knew it would bring on a germ-a-phobe mentality that I can get at times, but my niece BEGGED, so we went. I am glad I did, because it was really good. A fun Halloween-ish type movie because of the scary subject matter! A terrifying and thought provoking time at the movies! 8.5/10.

The Help

This was one of my FAVORITE books in recent years, and when I heard they were making a movie I was elated! When I saw the trailer, I was so let down. I expected it to be cheesy, and lack all of the charm, drama, and hilarity that the book had. Boy, was I wrong! This movie was so good, I have seen it twice! I took my 80+ year old grandmother, who had not read the book, and she laughed, she cried, and she thanked me numerous times for taking her. This movie had that effect on everyone. We all left that theater so happy. It is one of those rare occurrences of a movie being almost as good as the book it was based on. Wonderfully acted, good for the WHOLE family, and just a great film. 9.5/10.

Moneyball

I will be honest, I did not know what to expect from this film. The critics loved it, and everyone I talked to loved it, but I just did not think I would be that into it due to all the baseball, even though I am a big Red Sox, Braves, and Texas Rangers fan (Go Rangers!). This movie was NOT what I expected. I became so interested in all of it! The business side of my 2nd favorite sport was very entertaining! Plus Chris Pratt from one of my all time favorite shows Parks and Recreation was in it, and he is hilarious. Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, which could be why the dialogue flowed so well, Brad Pitt was great as always, and Jonah Hill was surprisingly great as well! Great movie, albeit a little long, but good, clean, and highly informative! 8.5/10.

The Ides of March

I am a sucker for a good political thriller! State of Play is one of my favorite films, and I was so hoping this one would follow in that ones footsteps. Well, as far as a good movie goes, this one definitely got it! It was not AS good or AS thrilling as State, but it was well worth my time and money. George Clooney as a philandering politician was pitch perfect, and my new crush from Drive, Ryan Gosling was fantastic once again. Rounding out that great cast were Evan Rachel Wood, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti. 8/10.

The Big Year

First of all, I am a MAJOR bird watcher. I believe I get this from my Dad, and have now converted my whole family (mom, niece and brother). This movie for that reason alone was a major draw for my family. Another big draw? STEVE MARTIN. Yes, over the years his movies kind of floundered, but I still have faith in him :) He has always been one of my favorite comedic actors. Anyways, I really liked this movie! I went into it with an open mind, because the reviews were not so great, and doing that enabled me to like it so much more! The cast was great, Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Joel McHale of The Soup was a HUGE draw for me, Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory was also a big one! It was fun for the family, and just an overall fun movie...I will say though: If you are not an avid bird watcher, you may be a little bored. 7.5/10.

Drive

This movie is FANTASTIC! First of all, I'm sure most everyone (atleast the women), know Ryan Gosling from The Notebook, but this is the first movie that I started crushing on him in. He was so good in this role! The soundtrack to the movie is so catchy, I downloaded it the second I got home from watching it. It IS a little bit violent for my tastes, but this does not distract from the story. It also has a wonderful cast aside from Gosling. Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad, Albert Brooks, and Carey Mulligan. An overall wonderful experience at the movies! 9.8/10.

I should also say, this was the first movie I ever saw that I had not seen the trailer for. I was bored one day while on my way to pick my niece up in Apollo Beach and had the time, and went in solely based on the reviews. I will probably NEVER do that again, but this movie was so worth it, I was definitely NOT disappointed!
